About the Business
For 200 years the Argyll Arcade, situated in the heart of Glasgow, has been a jewel in Scotland's architectural heritage. Designed by John Baird, the first covered mall in Scotland was regarded as 'revolutionary' giving its shoppers a diverse experience with a wide collection of enticing products. The iconic Argyll Arcade was structured in 1827, far pre-dating other shopping arcades of similar styles. The Argyll Arcade's distinct partisan design is just one of its notable characteristics.
The Arcade has a colourful and rich history, the most extravagant of which being the Lieutenant Knox incident. Knox, fuelled by a wager and armed with a lance, galloped through the arcade much to the horror of the passing shoppers. Not to mention the arcade's owners. Presently, a revamped Argyll Arcade has veered away from its fruitful history, continuing to develop in to a refined and tasteful jewellery emporium free from toy and dress makers.
